Rowan Piggott & Joe Danks were introduced in 2021 and bonded over a shared passion for Old-Time Appalachian music. An initial campsite session turned into living room jams, sharing lifts to sessions and ultimately the creation of a new old-time duo - Old Spot.
Expect foot stomping old-time music on 5-string fiddle, banjo, gourd banjo & guitar. Influenced by contemporary musicians like Rayna Gellert and Jake Blount as well as first-wave recording artists like John Hartford and Bill Monroe, they create contemporary Appalachian music with modern audiences in mind. Old Spot sees two musicians from different backgrounds exploring a shared musical love, creating traditional music that is bursting with joy and imagination. |

Both Joe & Rowan are seasoned live performers and can't wait to share Old Spot with audiences in the UK and beyond. They are in the process of mixing their debut album, recorded in August 2022 and are currently booking tours for 2023. Old Spot are not to be missed – bags of energy, barn-storming tunes and carefully arranged songs from two of the scene's most exciting young talents. WORKSHOPS //
Old Spot can offer workshops in clawhammer banjo and fiddle, as well as joint instrumental workshops sharing the joy of old-time music and arrangement with instrumentalists from any background. Both Joe & Rowan have extensive teaching experience and have delivered workshops at festivals all over the UK. SOCIAL DANCE //
Old Spot can expand to a full string band lineup (with guitar & double bass) to provide hypnotic and driving music for square dances and contras. |
